How it all started

How it all started

I'm a mum of three. But when I had my first baby, it was hard. Having the first child was a big adjustment to start with but there was complications with his birth. He was born with a partially fused heart valve. So we spent the first 3 weeks of his life in a NICU where he had his heart ballooned at 7ish days old. By a year old he was delayed in gross motor skills and verbally. By two we finally were able to get him evaluated and get him speech and physical therapy. But also by age 2, we had our second child, a baby girl.

So our start to parenthood was harder than some. But in all of the hardships, as a stay at home mom, I found sanity in my sewing machine. I loved creating new clothing items for myself. I had been sewing since collage, but this was a time in my life that I could have my kids playing nearby while I worked. We had our third child when our second was 2 (almost exactly, but that is a story for another time). And by this time my 2 year old girl was very interested in what mama was doing. Sewing.

My mom had made clothing for me and my sister, and looking back I never really liked the styles. I grew up in the 90's but her style was heavily influenced by the 80's. Big collars and lots of lace. So growing up I told myself I wouldn't make my kids clothing because to me then it seemed too much work for ok results. Fast forward to me having 3 kids, 2 of which were girls. With my 2 year old wanting to help me already and lets be honest, those cute little cheeks can't be ignored. I started to make skirts for her (we women/girls wear skirts in this house).

Every time someone saw her in her handkerchief skirts we would get compliments. Every time. So I started to think, well maybe someone else would like these. So with the encouragment of my husband, and friends and family, I started this little endevour.
